What comes first, motivation and then action, or action and then motivation?

And what is motivation, anyway? Here’s one definition, “The reason or reasons one has for acting or behaving in a particular way.”

Motivation is the driving force behind our actions.

Motivation is that powerful, internal force that drives you to live your life in a way you find meaningful and fulfilling.

Amelia Earhart said, “The most difficult thing is the decision to act; the rest is merely tenacity.”

Motivation is a decision that drives us to take action.

Motivation is all about our actions for a better life and why.

Let’s explore the relationship between motivation and action and how taking concrete steps is the key to unlocking our highest aspirations.

Action Ignites Motivation

If we wait until we’re motivated to start, we’ll likely be in the same place next year.

Motivation is the decision and will to act, even when we don’t feel like it.

Taking action builds momentum, and momentum sustains motivation; action is the spark that ignites a fire.

Find ways to kickstart your motivation. Don’t feel like going to the gym? Get dressed and put your sneakers on anyway because something that simple can be all it takes to get you to follow through. Don’t think, do. Stop negotiating with yourself to NOT follow through on what you know you want most in the long term for your life.

Action fuels motivation. Decide to act.

Action = Momentum

Action, even small actions, creates momentum. The hardest part of any journey is getting started because it takes the most energy. After all, it takes so much force to escape the clutches of the launching pad.

Once in motion, it’s pretty easy to stay in motion; getting into motion is the trick.

Completing small goal-related tasks creates a sense of progress and momentum that snowballs into bigger achievements and significant actions. It doesn’t take much, either. For instance, let’s consider writing; inspiration rarely strikes; it must be created. Committing to writing one paragraph can be all it takes to prime the ink and get it flowing. Imagine…writing one paragraph a day; doesn’t sound like much but it gets you going and adds up!

What’s one small action you can take that doesn’t require much time or effort that will take you in the direction of your goals and create some much-needed momentum?

Action Cures Procrastination

How often do we procrastinate because taking action seems so overwhelming or uncomfortable?

But what if we decided to start with a tiny action, like picking up the phone and dialing that number to make the call we need to make?

What if you set aside just two or three minutes to simply start instead of procrastinating and delaying?

The perfect moment isn’t going to come. The time is rarely “right.” And you won’t feel any better about it tomorrow than you do now, so stop delaying.

Decide to take action because when you do, procrastination loses its hold on you.

Action Fuels Consistency

Many people talk about being committed to our goals, and that’s true, but consistency is the key.

Motivation is the decision to take consistent action.

Be committed to consistency.

Consistency demonstrates to yourself that you are committed to your goals and dedicated to doing what it takes to achieve them.

Consistency isn’t as sexy as inspiration, but it gets the job done.

Action Manifest Results & Miracles

Why do we do what we do? To create a better life for ourselves and others. Someone said that action is the bridge that connects motivation to results. I’d go a step further and say that motivation is the bridge that connects motivation to miracles. Without action, we’re left with nothing more than wishes, dreams, and fantasies; we get nowhere. Progress without action is impossible; it’s like leaning on a shovel, wishing for a hole.

Action Conquers Fear

A common reason people give for not taking action is fear. It could be the fear of rejection, the unknown, failure, or being afraid the effort won’t be worth it. Whatever it might be, fear paralyzes us and keeps us stuck.

Action is the antidote to fear.

It takes courage to take action. Action strengthens courage and boosts motivation. Fear diminishes in the face of action; confidence grows; battles are won; dreams are unlocked.

Action Unlocks Self-Belief

How often do we hold ourselves back because we don’t believe we can do it? And then we see someone do the very thing we wanted to do, and we tell ourselves, “Well, if he or she did it, I can do it!” when the truth was we could’ve done it all along!

Action reveals how capable you really are; you’re more capable than you know or realize.

As your belief in yourself strengthens, you will take on bigger challenges because you’ve proven to yourself you are capable! Your motivation becomes self-perpetuating, and you pursue new challenges and greater achievements.

Final Words…

Waiting to feel motivated or inspired before taking action is the recipe for failure. Inaction is a limiting mindset that creates restriction and scarcity.

By taking small actions toward your goals, you fuel motivation, create momentum, overcome procrastination and fear, achieve your goals., and unlock your dreams.

Motivation without action is a lifeless, unstruck match.

Motivation is the decision and will to act! Decision and action are the twin forces that create a fulfilling life when done consistently. Through the power of decision and action, YOU rule YOUR life; without them, someone else will rule your life.

Zig Ziglar was fond of saying, “People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing – that’s why we recommend it daily.”

Unlock your best life today and every day with the miracle-working powers of decision and action.
